State Given 7 Days To Prosecute FKF President Nick Mwendwa Or Close Case

Embattled FKF boss Nick Mwendwa’s bond terms were Wednesday extended for seven days pending a formal charge by the state.

DCI detectives last week arrested Mwendwa and arraigned him before resident magistrate Wandia Nyamu and sought to detain him for 14 days to complete investigations.

The state said the suspect ought to be detained so he does not interfere with investigations.

But Nyamu released Mwendwa on a Sh4 million cash bail with an alternative bond of Sh7 million.

She directed Mwendwa to stay away from FKF offices, not to contact federation employees and not to attend all football activities.

Mwendwa was also directed not to access his office.

The magistrate on Wednesday extended the orders for seven days and asked the state to formally charge Mwendwa within that period failing which the file will stand closed.

“I agree with the respondent’s counsel that the state has not demonstrated compelling reasons to continue holding the respondent. I also find that the state acted not in good faith when police arrested the suspect,” the magistrate said.

She said detectives were free to summon Mwendwa to help in their investigations whenever they so wish.

The state cited fictitious cash withdrawals amounting to Sh29,502,302 from Football Kenya Federation and another Sh8.5 million that was later wired to private accounts including that of Mwendwa for his arrest.
